District 12 Inner Wheel

International Women's Day 2021

Local Inner Wheel Clubs from Kent and East Sussex are among the 550 Inner Wheel clubs who have joined in with the campaign to send out ‘thank you’ cards to local NHS workers, medical practices and pharmacies in recognition of their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The gesture was part of the Inner Wheel’s celebrations of International Women’s Day on March 8.  Inner Wheel Clubs from across Great Britain and Ireland wished to show their appreciation of all those, whatever their gender, who have been taking care of us, often putting themselves at risk to help us.

Enid Law, President of the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in Great Britain and Ireland said: “It’s a small gesture but a way for our members to show how much they appreciate the dedication and effort shown by our health workers throughout this pandemic.”

International Inner Wheel is the largest women's voluntary service organisation in the world built on a base of friendship, dedication to service and the promotion of international understanding.

The Clubs have contributed to a Covid Vaccination Distribution programme, organised by the International Inner Wheel, which has its headquarters in Altrincham, Cheshire, UK.  The hope is to raise £500,000 from our global membership by means of voluntary donations. Although the funds raised will be spent elsewhere in the world, the aim is to offer safe vaccinations for disadvantaged people in developing countries to be distributed as authorised by the IIW Executive and the Governing Body. Co-Chairman of Inner Wheel District 12, Sheila Cragg said “We realise that the lives we are saving could be our own as we are persuaded that no-one is safe until everyone is safe.”

There will be an update and more discussion on this Scheme at the Virtual Convention in April, to be held in Jaipur in India.

Inner Wheel District 12 Co Chairman, Christine Davies said “Since it became impossible to hold the Convention face to face, every effort has been made to promote it virtually over 2 days, April 17/18 and many of our members now have the opportunity to participate in this event, which is held every 3 years. Organisers are hoping to attract over 5,000 delegates.”
